Project Update
We have tremendous progress to report regarding the Friendship store. Over the past several months the project has received zoning and land use approvals, as well as all of the permits required to build the new store. Recently, the project financing was completed, which allowed the co-op to purchase the last remaining parcel of land from the city. This purchase coincided with the reassembly of the former parcels into one new property address, 317 38th Street East, the home of the new store. READ MORE

Open House & Project Office
Join us at the Sabathani Community Center in room 103 on Tuesday, Nov. 11, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. for an open house. Several co-op managers and staff will be available to answer questions and discuss the project. This display will be open in room 103 until November 28th. After that point the display will move to the “project office” on the second floor. The office will be open to the public during business hours for the duration of the construction schedule.

Call for Mural Artists
To celebrate and carry forward the history of the property, we have set aside two mural locations on the new store’s building design. In the spring we will send out a request for proposal to local artists who express interest in designing and creating a mural. Additional details on the proposal requirements and process will be available in the coming months.

Thank You!
Many people and organizations are to thank for their support and help in getting the project to this stage: the Bryant and Central neighborhood groups, the Carrot Initiative, immediate neighbors, Sabathani Community Center staff, the Greater Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, city staff, Councilperson Glidden and her staff, HIRED staff, co-op Board of Directors and staff, the project team, the lender team, and co-op owners who invested in the project. Thank you, everyone!
More project information, including building and site plans, is available on our project web page.
