Human Resources Consultant 1

Salary Range: $24.32 – $35.91/hourly; $50,780 – $74,980/annually
This position is part of a Human Resources team at the Department of Human Services that supports Direct Care and Treatment (DCT), Community Based Services (CBS). The position will require occasional travel to various sites/locations to meet with supervisors and employees. The work location is negotiable based on the applicant selected.
The HR Consultant serves as a business partner to managers and supervisors by providing expert consultation and guidance on union contract interpretation, employee performance management, employment investigations, conflict resolution, reorganizations and layoffs.
The HR Consultant has the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and carry out assignments with minimal supervision. The HR Consultant has strong project management and organizational skills as well as strong oral and written communication skills.
The HR Consultant must possess strong human relations skills which emphasize clear communication, attention to diverse viewpoints and the ability to negotiate toward acceptable outcomes as well as strong analytical skills deployed in contract interpretation as well as complex problem-solving.
At least 2 years of full-time equivalent advanced professional level work experience in a human
resources office in a several of the following human resources areas: labor relations (contract
administration, interpretation, employment law, performance management, investigations, discipline and discharge, grievance hearings, union relations), staffing, job classification, unemployment, compensation, management consultation.
- Degree/certification in Human Resources or related field;
- Knowledge of State of Minnesota employment law, rules and administrative processes.
