Ophelia Copes, age 104, of Brooklyn Center, died Nov. 30, 2014. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Le Roy. Ophelia was a 1929 graduate of South High, attended the University of Minnesota, and was a 1935 graduate of MacPhail School of Music. Diane Burgess (Cobbin) Joyner

Diane Burgess (Cobbin) Joyner, age 70, of Minneapolis passed away November 5, 2014. She was preceded in death by husband, Floyd Joyner; parents, Odell and Irene Cobbin; and one sister, Darlene Gardner. She is survived by her children, Derek Burgess, Robin Burgess, Tasha Burgess, Ana Mae Burgess and Joshua Joyner; sisters, Marlene Eaves, Norma Parker, Anna Mae Wooten-Fader and Lisa Pena; 11 grandchildren; and a host of stepchildren, great grandchildren and extended family. In memory of three great men

We lost three individuals this April; I personally didn’t know each of them, but came close to meeting one of them. Charles Sumner “Chuck” Stone, Jr. died April 6 of congestive heart failure at an assisted-living facility in North Carolina at the age of 89. Born in 1924 in St. Louis, he was a Tuskegee Airman in World War II. Then, instead of attending Harvard — who accepted him, he instead went to and graduated from Wesleyan University in 1948, and later earned his master’s from the University of Chicago. Donna Beatrice Sandberg (nee Beecham)

Donna B. Sandberg of Richfield, Minnesota passed away peacefully on March 25, 2014 at age 75. She is survived by loving husband Carl. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at 11 am at the Cremation Society of Minnesota, 4343 Nicollet Avenue South, Minneapolis. Margaret Dobbins Gaskins passed away on February 12, 2012. She was born March 13, 1927 to Cornelius and Elizabeth Dobbins in Marshalltown, Iowa, where she attended Morrow Chapel Methodist Church and graduated from Marshalltown Senior High School in 1946. She married Moses W. Carr and moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota, where she continued to live until her death. She was employed by General Service Administration, where she retired in 1988.
