Bettie Claire Thomas Withers, born December 20, 1946, died peacefully on December 26, 2015. The eldest of five born to Robert Claire and Exzenia Grace Thomas, Bettie was followed by her two sisters Claudette and Beverly, and her two brothers James and Michael. She was lovingly raised by her grandmother in Pelham, Texas. In 1965, she relocated to Minneapolis, Minnesota to pursue her career in the medical field, where she became affectionately known as “Ms. Bettie.” In 1970, she married Edward Withers, Jr., and continued to serve as a patient advocate and community representative for Hennepin County Medical Center for nearly 30 years. Jacqueline Jones Clark, age 70, of Minneapolis, MN passed away November 6, 2015. She was preceded in death by her husband, Craig E. Clark. She will be missed by her sons, Gregory and Brent, as well as seven grandchildren, one great-grandson, and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Victor Lee Propes passed away August 14, 2015 at his home in Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 76. A memorial service, with military honors, was held at 2 pm on Saturday, September 5, at Henderson’s Funeral Chapel in Iowa, located at 3500 6th Ave, Des Moines, IA 50313. In addition, a tribute to Victor Propes was held at 5:30 pm on Wednesday, September 9 at Scratch Bar and Grill, 408 3rd Avenue North, in downtown Minneapolis’ warehouse district. Victor was a civil rights advocate, mentor, and educator. He is survived by his children, Pashell (Arthur) Johnson, Tarik and Hakim Propes; his grandchildren, Zachary Jeremy, Jacob, Najia, Amire, Mariah, Elijah and Malik; his sisters, Arthurlene Dixon, Paula and Lesha Propes; his former wife Beverly Galloway-Propes and a host of extended family and friends. Millicent R. “Millie” Clark, age 96, of Edina entered into eternal peace on Wednesday, August 26, 2015 in Edina, MN. Born in Marion, Indiana, she is survived by loving daughter Faye Dudley; granddaughter Kristen (John) Morrissey; special grandson Michael Barth; brother Noah (Hallie) Smith; nieces Jacqueline Drye and Pam (Harry) Hester; and numerous cousins and friends. He had lived for 10 years in Columbia, Maryland with a cousin, Julie Hazel, and her mother, Jackie George, now deceased, after relocating from New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina. Al was the first-born son of Milicent Rashford Burgess and Crystal Francis Brown Burgess of 970 Rondo, St. Paul, Minnesota, and the former husband of Glenna Leslie Burgess of New Orleans.
