The year 2011, in the prep sports world, will be remembered for many outstanding accomplishments.
Of those accomplishments, two stand out: The Hopkins girls basketball team, led by coach BRIAN COSGRIFF, capturing the Class 4A title, and DeLaSalle, coached by former Marshall-University High School and University of Wisconsin standout FAITH PATTERSON-JOHNSON, winning the Class 3A crown.
Led by BRIANNA WILLIAMS, NIA COFFEY, SIDNEY COFFEY, EBONY LIVINGSTON, T’AIRE STARKS, GRACIA HUTSON, JULIA WIEMER and CHELSEY JACOX, Hopkins captured the championship by defeating Buffalo (79-62), White Bear Lake (52-34), and Eden Prairie (67-45).
DeLaSalle, who got outstanding play from TYSEANNA JOHNSON, MARIAH ADANENE, ALLINA STARR, and CHANEL DICKINSON, won their title by outscoring Rogers (47-23), Benilde-St. Margaret’s (55-46), and Hill Murray (63-43).
Both teams were fun to watch and have a chance of repeating their feats in 2012.
