The Ripley Memorial Foundation, a donor-advised fund of the Women’s Foundation of Minnesota, has awarded $59,500 in grants to nine organizations. The grant period is January 1 — December 31, 2012. The grantees are:
Centro ($7,000): To pilot a new Latino youth leadership and service-learning curriculum to reduce the likelihood of pregnancy among low-income Latino teens in Minneapolis.
Employment Action Center ($8,000): To support Bright Futures, a comprehensive school- and community-based program for pregnant and parenting teen mothers.
Face to Face ($4,500): To support ”B Free,” a program that provides a year’s worth of birth control to approximately 55 uninsured adolescent clients at high risk for teen pregnancy.
The Family Partnership ($6,000): To support the Teen Outreach Program to increase teen knowledge about healthy relationships, sexuality, and pregnancy prevention, while building skills and leadership through service learning experiences
Lao Family Community of Minnesota ($7,000): To support Healthy Hmong Teen and Young Parents Program, two programs of Kev Xaiv (Making Choices) which aim to improve the sexual health of Hmong teens and youth parents, and reduce risk factors and increase protective factors related to teen pregnancy.
Minnesota African Women’s Association ($6,000): To support the Amakolo Youth Power Pregnancy Prevention Project providing culturally appropriate peer education about healthy sexuality and life skills for 13-17-year-old African immigrant youth in the Twin Cities metropolitan area.
Planned Parenthood ($7,000): To support the Hmong STAR (Students Teaching About Responsibility) and Youth Power programs providing direct, complete, and medically accurate sexuality information to teens, including the prevention of pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections.
Plymouth Christian Youth Center ($8,000): To support the Plymouth Christian Youth Center’s First Things First, a comprehensive teen pregnancy prevention program for high school students in North Minneapolis.
YWCA of Minneapolis ($6,000): To support the Contact Plus program providing high-quality, comprehensive sexual health and relationship education for youth of color and youth from resource-poor communities, grades 6-12, in the Minneapolis Public Schools.
