Great WNBA games most worthy of sports talk

To politely say I’m tired of the Kevin Love talk is understating it. First, he pulls out of an MLB celebrity softball game under the guise that he might have been booed, since the game was being played next door from the gym he plays in. Then last week Love announces he’s pulling out of playing with Team USA, reportedly “because of his current status.”

Huh? He’s still under contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves for another year. He’s not a LeBron James or Carmelo Anthony, two players who were eligible for free agency. Continue Reading →

New round of decisions may shake up NBA

Remember the summer of 2010? It will forever be known as the summer of the decision made by LeBron James as a free agent leaving Cleveland and signing with Miami, joining Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh in South Beach, turning the Heat into an instant title contender. Pat Riley did OK with four straight trips to the NBA Finals, only the third NBA Franchise to accomplish this historic feat. The Big Three – James, Wade and Bosh – did big things in Miami, joining the Boston Celtics, Los Angeles Lakers, Detroit Pistons and Chicago Bulls repeating as back-to-back NBA Champions. After failing to win a third consecutive title vs. Continue Reading →

NBA playoffs are coming

It disappoints me greatly to say that the Timberwolves (38-38) have missed the playoffs again. After nine straight years in the NBA lottery, they were a lot better this year but not close to being good enough. The Western Conference again is loaded with deep-talented teams even though the Eastern Conference has delivered the NBA Champion back to back with the Miami Heat the last two years. I believe the NBA Champion in 2014, however, will come out of the rugged Western Conference. They have five teams with 50 wins or more. Continue Reading →

The Heat is on — 66-16-REPEAT?

LeBron James will be the NBA’s Most Valuable Player — that is no secret. It might be unanimous! James averaged 27.0 points, eight rebounds and seven assists per game. And his team, the Miami Heat, are the defending NBA Champions. And with the NBA playoffs underway as of April 20, the Heat are heavy favorites to reach the Finals for the third straight year. Finally, parity in men’s college hoops

Can we say with all surety that parity was finally achieved this year in men’s college basketball? KFAN’s Henry Lake (HL) and Robert Littal (RL) of BlackSportsOnline recently shared their thoughts on this and this year’s cliché-filled NCAA tournament already in progress. (Please note: Lake and Littal’s comments were made prior to Sunday’s tournament selections.)

View: Was there indeed parity this season? HL: There always will be premier schools, but what I think is different this year is that some of those teams that we always penciled in as top seeds in the tournament essentially have taken a step back, [and] other teams have taken a step forward. I am not surprised that there is parity. Continue Reading →
