Mayors pledge racial equity

The Twin Cities could be the nation’s best example for racial equity — so pledge the mayors of the state’s two largest municipalities. In welcoming the estimated 500-plus attendees at the August 5-6 “Convening on Racial Equity” at the University of Minnesota, both St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman and Minneapolis Mayor Betsy Hodges told the audience that they are committed to addressing racial equity in all aspects of government and society. The two-day conference was co-sponsored by 10 governmental jurisdictions and over 40 local and national community-based organizations. “It is critically important that we leaders come together and work through every aspect of what we do in our cities and in our states to make sure that we are truly an equitable society,” stated Coleman. St. Paul mayor, community leaders announce initiatives to honor Rondo’s past, present and future

Deed for future community center transferred

On Wednesday, July 9, St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman joined St. Paul City Council Member Dai Thao, Minnesota Historical Society Director Stephen Elliott, Rondo Avenue Inc. Co-Chair Ronald C. Buford, and community leaders to announce key initiatives to honor Saint Paul’s Rondo neighborhood. Gathering at 820 Concordia Street, the future site for the Rondo Community Center, the deed for the property was officially transferred to Rondo Avenue Inc. organization. Twin Cities’ Own “Mint Condition” to perform at the 30th Annual Rondo Days Festival Celebration

R&B stalwarts Mint Condition will perform at the 30th Annual Rondo Days Festival Celebration on Saturday, July 20th at the Rondo Education Center’s Field at 560 Concordia Avenue in St. Paul. The festivities will begin with a 5K Walk & Run, a parade, and will be followed by the opening ceremonies featuring invited guests: Mayor Chris Coleman, Ramsey County Commissioner Toni Carter, Minnesota House of Representatives Rena Moran, and Rondo Days founders Marvin Roger Anderson and Floyd G. Smaller. In addition to Mint Condition, the entertainment will also feature other local artists, bands, dance and spoken-word performances.
