Boys’ state basketball tournament highlights


The 2012 state boys’ basketball tournament held at the Target Center last weekend will certainly be one to remember.  


There were two buzzer-beaters in the Class 3A and4A title games. City Conference teams from Minneapolis and St. Paul placed second and third respectively in Class 3A. A private school power in Minneapolis reemerged as 3A champs, and a new 4A champion was crowned for the first time in three years. Continue Reading →

Washburn and Johnson on target to meet again soon



Minneapolis Washburn and St. Paul Johnson put on quite a show in the Twin City boys’ basketball game two weeks ago. Washburn won in a 90-89 classic after senior forward JERRY PRATT converted his own missed layup as time expired. His putback helped the Millers offset a 30-point performance by Johnson senior guard MARCUS MARSHALL. Pratt leads Washburn past Johnson for TC title


In the Twin City boys’ basketball championship game at St. Paul Washington High School last Saturdayafternoon, Minneapolis Washburn forward JERRY PRATT didn’t start in the annual intercity contest — but he made sure he was around for its conclusion. The 6-4 senior scored his 25th point by rebounding his own missed layup with 5.5 seconds remaining and scoring as time expired to give the Millers a 90-89 win over St. Paul Johnson, who got a 30-point performance from senior guard MARCUS MARSHALL. Washburn, who also got 15 points each from CHUCKIE SMITH and DEJON DAVIS, 13 from JOSEPH DOBY and nine from DWIGHT ANDERSON, led Johnson, who also got contributions from DE’VONTA DURR (14 points), QUASHINGM SMITH-PUGH (13) and DARIUS WATSON (12), led 60-52 with 13-minutes left before the Governors came roaring back to tie it at the 10-minute mark.
