Park Center-Osseo rivalry showcases b-ball talent

 

Last year in late December a friend of mine, former Minneapolis North and University of Minnesota women’s basketball player ELLEN HEBERT, suggested that I attend a boys’ basketball contest between Park Center and Osseo on Friday, January 6, 2011. I will admit I blew the invitation off at first. I live in St. Paul, and the thought of driving through traffic was enough for me to want to attend a game closer to my home. Boys’ state basketball tournament highlights

 

The 2012 state boys’ basketball tournament held at the Target Center last weekend will certainly be one to remember.  

 

There were two buzzer-beaters in the Class 3A and4A title games. City Conference teams from Minneapolis and St. Paul placed second and third respectively in Class 3A. A private school power in Minneapolis reemerged as 3A champs, and a new 4A champion was crowned for the first time in three years. Continue Reading →

A weekend of hoops and a college commitment

This past weekend I witnessed a classic high school boys’ basketball game, watched three former all-metro

players in NCAA Division I action, and learned that one of the state’s top football players made a collegiate commitment. Check this out!  

Friday, January 6, 2012: 

Sophomore center IAN THEISEN’S freethrow with 1.6 seconds left gave Osseo a 70-69 victory over Park Center in a classic Northwest Suburban boys’ basketball matchup. The game, which was played at Osseo, ended in dramatic fashion. Junior guard QUINTON HOOKER, who finished with 28 points, tied the game by calmly netting a three-pointer with 24 seconds remaining. After a timeout, Osseo, who also got 15 points from junior guard BRIDGE TUSLER, worked the ball around before Theisen was fouled. Continue Reading →
