Last year in late December a friend of mine, former Minneapolis North and University of Minnesota women’s basketball player ELLEN HEBERT, suggested that I attend a boys’ basketball contest between Park Center and Osseo on Friday, January 6, 2011. The 2012 state boys’ basketball tournament held at the Target Center last weekend will certainly be one to remember.
There were two buzzer-beaters in the Class 3A and4A title games. City Conference teams from Minneapolis and St. Paul placed second and third respectively in Class 3A. Sophomore center IAN THEISEN’S freethrow with 1.6 seconds left gave Osseo a 70-69 victory over Park Center in a classic Northwest Suburban boys’ basketball matchup. The game, which was played at Osseo, ended in dramatic fashion. Junior guard QUINTON HOOKER, who finished with 28 points, tied the game by calmly netting a three-pointer with 24 seconds remaining.
