North prevails in Mpls City Conference football game

A dominating performance by the defense and explosive play by the offense propelled Minneapolis North to a 44-6 City Conference football victory over Southwest last Friday afternoon. Here is a breakdown of the game.  

First quarter

Wide receiver MALIK MATTHEWS dominated the opening period. The junior nearly scored on the opening kickoff and then caught touchdown passes of 14 and 11 yards from do-it-all quarterback TYLER JOHNSON. Proud dad’s encouragement pays off

After a recent 47-25 loss to St. Paul Central in a nonconference football game, Minneapolis Washburn defensive back KIRK BROWN wasn’t in the mood to talk to anyone — not even his father. “What did I tell you?” SEAN BROWN said to his son as the sophomore headed towards the team bus. “You have got to be ready to play against St. Paul Central.”
