Gertrude Green departed for her heavenly home on December 4, 2014, at the age of 99. She was loving, compassionate and faithful to her church and family. Gertrude is survived by her daughter, Gladys Randle; son, Larry R. Smith (Bonnie Wilson); grandchildren, Cheryl Jones, Roniel Green, Kelley Green, Kim Green, Sherri Green, Robbin Green, Chanda Smith Baker (Roland Baker), Shannon Smith Jones; 18 great-grandchildren, 16 great-great-grandchildren; cousin, Willie Mae Johnson; and a host of relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by parents, Lee and Ada Howelton; husband, James Green; brothers, Alverga Howelton, Robert Howelton, Otha Howelton; sister, Idella Grigsby; children, Richard R. Green (former chancellor of New York Public Schools) and Robert L. Green; grandson, Craig Green; and granddaughter, Dawn Green. Ophelia Copes

Ophelia Copes, age 104, of Brooklyn Center, died Nov. 30, 2014. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Le Roy. Ophelia was a 1929 graduate of South High, attended the University of Minnesota, and was a 1935 graduate of MacPhail School of Music. Diane Burgess (Cobbin) Joyner

Diane Burgess (Cobbin) Joyner, age 70, of Minneapolis passed away November 5, 2014. She was preceded in death by husband, Floyd Joyner; parents, Odell and Irene Cobbin; and one sister, Darlene Gardner. She is survived by her children, Derek Burgess, Robin Burgess, Tasha Burgess, Ana Mae Burgess and Joshua Joyner; sisters, Marlene Eaves, Norma Parker, Anna Mae Wooten-Fader and Lisa Pena; 11 grandchildren; and a host of stepchildren, great grandchildren and extended family. Charles E. Jackson died May 13, 2014 after a lengthy illness. He was born September 9, 1944 in Shorterville, Alabama. Charles was a human service professional for over 20 years. He is survived by his wife, Betty A. Jackson; parents, Alice Spate and Charles A. Jackson of FL; children Charles Jackson II of Texas, Garold and Charlene Jackson of Florida, and Lorily (Love) Williams of Minneapolis.
