‘Free money’ for down payments offers homebuyers a LIFT

Free money — that’s what NeighborhoodLIFT Program Manager Kimberly Smith-Moore calls $15,000 in down payment assistance that’s being offered to eligible homebuyers. The down payment assistance can be applied to a mortgage loan with any approved lender. The program is a partnership between Wells Fargo, NeighborWorks America, Neighborhood Housing Services in Minneapolis and Community Neighborhood Housing Services in St. Paul. Winter looms while Northside storm damage remains

 
City offers low-cost forgivable loans to help fix homes

According to City of Minneapolis officials, there still are over 200 Northside tornado-damaged homes with tarps on their roofs. With winter close at hand, there is now over $2 million in funds available for homeowners who still need repairs to their homes damaged by the May tornado. The Minnesota Housing Board recently gave the City $750,000 to help provide interest-free loans to North Minneapolis homeowners for roof and chimney repairs. “We [now] have money” to help these homeowners, says Cherie Shoquist, City foreclosure project coordinator.
