Black coaches lead; Concordia, St. Thomas win


MARVIN LEWIS (Cincinnati), JIM CALDWELL (Indianapolis), MIKE TOMLIN (Pittsburgh) and LOVIE SMITH (Chicago) each won their respective NFL football games: Cincinnati 20, Carolina 7; Indianapolis 27, Denver 13; Pittsburgh 37, Tampa Bay (RAHEEM MORRIS) 6; Kansas City 31, San Francisco (MIKE SINGLETARY) 10. Chicago 20, Green Bay 17 were the results that gave Black coaches another 4-2 week making the current record of Black NFL coaches 12-5.

Michael Vick is back

In other pro football news, MICHAEL VICK led the Philadelphia Eagles to a 28-3 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. He threw three touchdown passes while hitting 17 for 31 for 291 yards. He is now 2-0 as a starting quarterback.

No. 4 St. Thomas led by Tracy and Morse

The St. Thomas Tommies beat Concordia-Moorhead 56-7 for its fourth consecutive win. The nationally ranked fourth-place Division III team was led by DAKOTA TRACY’s 13/18 for 181 yards and two touchdowns. The former Como Park standout GREG MORSE also chipped in six passes in seven attempts for 97 yards and two touchdowns.

Concordia upsets Minnesota-Mankato 28-26

SPENCER OHM had help from receivers ZACK HOVEY, CHARLES GILBERT and HAYDEN VAVRA, who each caught touchdown passes, and JAMES PETERSON, who ran a one yard plunge in. SAM CAMPBELL caught 10 passes for 85 yards. TYLER JOHNSON was in on 10 tackles on defense. The Mavericks were nationally ranked 11th before this game.
