Football Gophers looking for new coach
JOEL MATURI, the athletic director for the University of Minnesota, has fired football coach TIM BREWSTER. JEFF HORTON, currently the Gophers co-offensive coordinator, has assumed the head coaching duties for five regular season games remaining.
This columnist was a Brewster supporter, and we wish him and his family well.
Former Gopher quarterback, Super Bowl winner, and former Indianapolis Colts head coach TONY DUNGY was approached to determine his interest in the job, but he would rather assist his alma mater in the search. So he will.
Other coaches who have been mentioned include University of Houston head football coach and former Gopher assistant KEVIN SUMLIN, and the highly regarded Vikings defensive coordinator LESLIE FRAZIER is another possibility.
This will be an interesting process. Stay tuned!
