Hopkins, led by MARVING SINGLETON, JOE COLEMAN, SIYANI CHAMBERS, and ZACH STAHL, led the Royals to their third consecutive Class 4A title in the boys’ state basketball tournament last weekend.
And an interesting tournament it was. Defending 3A champ and top seed St. Paul Johnson, who featured ESTAN TYLER, MARCUS MARSHALL and ROOSEVELT SCOTT, lost their opening round game to New Prague 83-77. ZACH LOFTON, BEN GLOVER, KEANU GLOVER and JORDAN MILLS helped Colombia Heights to the 3A title game before finishing as runner-up to Orono 85-76.
TEREZ VAN PELT, JOEY SONNENFELD and D.J. HEBERT led Osseo to a 61-57 third-place Class 4A finish defeating Cretin-Derham Hall, who got outstanding play from CORTEZ TILLMAN, RAJON KELLY and TAYLOR MONTERO.
The 2011 boys’ basketball tournament will definitely be one to remember.
