This Easter weekend we continue the celebration of Carol Fitzgerald with the Seventh Annual benefit weekend. Carol died April 10, 2003 of breast cancer. This is year seven of the mission in her memory of raising awareness and money to support the causes that were especially important to her during her lifetime of 47 years: breast cancer support and prevention, HIV/AIDS, and education of urban youth.
The plan was to bring together sports and entertainment as the vehicles to help drive the cause. For the third straight year, 2007 American Idol winner Jordin Sparks will perform at the Metropolitan Ballroom in Golden Valley. Sparks will sing her hits and the special soundtrack she performs on the new Disney movie release African Cats.
Arizona’s five-time Pro Bowl receiver Larry Fitzgerald, Jr., Anquan Bolden of the Baltimore Ravens, and Green Bay Packer Super Bowl Champion Greg Jennings are the headliners among the many star athletes and celebrities who will be here to support the Seventh Annual Carol Fitzgerald Memorial Fund Weekend.
It’s starts Friday night with the VIP Red Carpet, 5:30 to 6 pm; the benefit continues to 9 pm at the Metropolitan Ballroom. It includes dinner and a silent auction with some great sports memorabilia items.
Then, from 10:15 to 1 am, Fitzgerald and friends enjoy the Tight Fit Band as they perform at the benefit after-party, also at the Metropolitan. On Saturday, 1-4 pm at the Martin Luther King Center, 4055 Nicollet Ave., the celebration continues when the 2011 CFMF award winners will be presented with their grants at the Community Celebration.
Everyone is welcome to come and support this special cause that is so important to us. For more information, details and ticket info, call 612-619-0102 or email info@Larry-Fitzgerald.com.
Larry Fitzgerald can be heard weekday mornings on KMOJ Radio 89.9 FM at 8:25 am, and on WDGY-AM 740 Monday-Friday at 12:17 pm and 4:17 pm; he also commentates on sports 7-8 pm on Almanac (TPT channel 2).
