On the evening of March 31, 2012, Antonique Martin was crowned Miss Seventh Avenue. The pageant was sponsored by the lay organization of Wayman AME Church located on Seventh Avenue North in Minneapolis. Antonique attends Patrick Henry High School; her future plans are to attend college and law school to become an attorney.
First Runner-Up is Shaniqua Parker, a senior at Urban League Academy High School. Second Runner-Up is Idalid M. Toro of North Community High School. Victoria Brown was also a contestant, but she could not participate because of a family emergency. Wayman is praying for her family to get through their crisis.
The young ladies presented their bios and answered some very important questions on the state of this country and the world, as well as a final question. They were judged on their evening gowns that were donated by Operation Glass Slipper. Savvi Formalwear donated tuxedos for the escorts from their Maplewood store where Ashley Rowland is manager.
Grammy-winning recording artist Marie Graham of the Sounds of Blackness performed, and so did local recording artist Kevin Jackson. Dance was presented by the Soul Seekers Praise Dancers of Wayman. Dance was also performed by seven-year-old Markarei Payne-Glass. The pageant was hosted by Ly’Neys Hill and Todd Western who brought humor and grace to the position they were chosen for.
Queen Antonique was crowned by Reverend Alphonse Reff, Sr. presiding elder and pastor. The girls were coached by Rita Colpher, Shandra Plowden and Diane Samuel. Wayman AME Church thanks all participants and all the people who helped make this pageant a success.
