It was quite the state girls’ basketball tournament this past week at the Williams Arena in Minneapolis. Nia Hollie scored 26 points in leading Hopkins to the Class 4A title by defeating defending champion Eastview 68-60, led by Madison Guebert’s 19 points.
Makalya Hayes’ 13 points led Park Center to their second straight Class 3A title with a 52-45 victory over Marshall in a rematch of last year’s title game.
Minneahaha Academy finished third in Class 2A by defeating Roseau 56-54, while Maranatha Christian Academy was runnerup in Class 1A, losing to Ada-Borup 82-65.
Richfield’s tournament run ended with a 72-57 loss to Park Center in the Class 3A quarterfinals.
Here are some of the tournament’s top players:
Hopkins
TT Starks — 5-10 senior guard: made sure the Royals came out on top.
Nia Hollie — 6-1 junior guard: The most dominant player in the tournament.
Dee Dee Winston — 5-8 sophomore guard: Ran the offense like an experienced veteran.
Viria Livingston — 5-7 senior guard: Her leadership was unquestioned.
Ashley Bates — 5-8 junior guard: One of the state’s most underrated players.
Evelyn Knox — 5-8 junior guard: Clutch three-point shooter.
Eastview
Madison Guebert — 5-9 senior guard: Did what she could to lead her team.
Samantha Trammel — 6-2 senior forward: Was dominant inside the paint.
Park Center
Makayla Hayes — 6-2 sophomore center: led the Pirates back to the Promised Land.
Feyisayo Ayobamidele — 5-6 sophomore guard: Made huge contributions in the title game.
Ann Simonet — 5-5 sophomore guard: Clutch shooting on the big stage.
Hannah Schuab — 5-5 senior guard: Unquestioned heart and soul of the team.
Danielle Schaub — 5-4 sophomore guard: Had an outstanding tournament.
Camille McCoy — 5-8 senior forward: Her inside play kept Park Center in the title hunt.
Richfield
Katrina Mogren — 5-7 senior guard: Outstanding point guard.
Kyla Adams — 5-10 senior guard: Scored inside and out and defended as well.
Kailey Adams — 5-10 senior guard: She had some outstanding performances that helped her team get to the tournament.
Delilah Taylor — 5-11 senior forward: Was dominant shot blocker and scorer during tournament run.
Minnehaha Academy
Gracia Gilreath — 5-5 senior guard: One of the best point guards in the tournament.
Sarah Kaminski — 5-9 junior guard: Scored when her team need a basket.
Avery New — 5-10 eighth-grade guard: Showed the poise of an upper classman.
Maranatha Christian Academy
Ashley Lewis — 5-8 junior guard: Played steady from the guard position.
Lexi Lee — 5-7 senior guard: Clearly one of tournament’s top players.
Alaina Jarnot — 5-7 junior guard: Shot well during the tournament.
Jaclyn Jarnot — 6-0 freshman forward: Did not play like a ninth-grader.
