It may not be on the same level as the so-called mid-season classic in the majors, but don’t say that to the players in the American Association All-Star Game at the St. Paul ballpark. “I’m soaking it all in,” exclaimed St. Paul outfielder Alonzo Harris, one of four Saints selected on the North squad that will face the South Tuesday.
“It’s good to be out here and have some fun,” added Saints teammate, second baseman Tony Thomas. “It’s a great experience just to be nominated to be in the All-Star Game, and the Home Run Derby contest as well.”
Harris and Thomas are also among the eight players in Monday’s hitting contest. “I’m an underdog,” admitted Harris. “People don’t think I can put it out,” he told the MSR before the contest. “My goal is to hit one.”
The MSR will be provide results of Monday’s Home Run Derby, Tuesday’s game, as well as other All-Star notes, in dispatches to come.
UPDATE: Harris came in second in the Home Run Derby, behind Curt Smith of the Lincoln Saltdogs. Read what he had to say about his Derby appearance here.
