The death of a loved one can be an overwhelming experience for a child. On September 9, Fairview’s Youth Grief Services, in collaboration with Stairstep Foundation and His Works United, is offering a new program tool to help — Camp Lift. This free, day-long bereavement camp offers a lifeline of hope for children and teens coping with the death of a loved one.
“So often, our kids have to work through their grief alone,” said Akmed Khalifa, Fairview Youth Grief Services camp coordinator. “Bringing Camp Lift to North Minneapolis is an important step to help children and adults find a safe and nurturing place to turn to after the loss of a family member or close friend.”
The Camp Lift model removes traditional barriers to participation. It is offered free of charge with meals and transportation provided, ensuring that this resource is accessible to anyone who needs it
A light breakfast, lunch and dinner are provided. Free bus transportation is available from Zion Baptist Church in North Minneapolis. To register, visit www.fairview.org/youthgrief.
Fairview’s Youth Grief Services, a free community program of Fairview Health Services, has served more than 1,200 children, teens and adults since 2012.
