One year ago, on Wednesday, January 4, 2017, angels came and escorted Carrie Janice Blakey Thomas at age 96 onto “the old ship of Zion” to take her to her heavenly home.
There to welcome her were her parents Issac Jr. and Maggie Williams Blakey, husband Leon Thomas, daughter Bettye Joyce Dean and 15 siblings. She was number 10, of 16 and the last surviving.
Missing her are daughters Norma Jean Thomas Hancock (Pinky) and Colleen Thomas-Matlon, nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, nine great-great grandchildren, and a host of family and friends.
She was born in Yankton, South Dakota. For over 60 years she was a member of St. James A.M.E. Church in St. Paul — she loved the Lord!
She was also an outstanding cook! In memory of Carrie, share a meal with someone.
