Public Art Saint Paul has officially launched a People’s Chalk Edition of its Sidewalk Poetry Program as a creative way for people to express themselves and stay connected during the COVID-19 stay at home period.
Public Art Saint Paul, a non-profit that works with artists and community to bring art into everyday life, is initiating a series of projects under the umbrella “Public Plaza.” Public Plaza is a new interactive digital space where artists and the community share ideas, questions, creative activities, art, and strategies for survival, thriving, and collective wellness. The People’s Chalk Edition is the first of the Public Plaza series.
“We needed to rethink the notion of public space to still be connected to our community, the heart of public art and public space,” said Executive Director Colleen Sheehy. “We want to hear from all people, all ages, and kids are welcome to participate.
“Take time to write your best poem inside your home, then when you’re ready, grab your chalk and share your poem on your sidewalk. Take a photo and tag us on Instagram at @publicartstpaul. We can’t wait to share everyone’s creativity!”
