Edward “Eddie” Manderville, age 88, died November 19, 2020. He is survived by his wife of 62
years, Lorraine, his daughter, Shauntel; and two grandsons. Manderville worked as a building
inspector for 20 years for the city of Minneapolis, and later served as the executive director of
Neighborhood Housing Services.
Fast Eddie” began golfing at the age of 26 and became a golf legend in Minneapolis. He
shattered the color barrier in the Minnesota gold and competed in most of Minnesota Golf
Association’s golf championships over the past 50 years, including the U.S. Senior Open and
Senior Amateur. Eddie had eleven holes in one, two of which he hit back to back at Theodore
Wirth Par Three Golf Course on August 9, 2013, an event with odds of less than 67 million to
one.
Eddie taught golf at Anwatin Middle School and formed the Gelende Ski Club, the first and only
African American non-profit ski club in Minnesota. He volunteered at the MGA since 1990,
including working as a rules official for many tournaments and was a long time member at Rush
Creek.
All of his accomplishments were recognized on July 28, 2018, when Jacob Frey, mayor of
Minneapolis proclaimed it “Ed Manderville Day”. Eddie will be remembered for his smile,
infectious laugh, love for life and the game of golf, and for being a constant fixture at the putting
green at Theodore Wirth. We will MISS you Eddie.
A Celebration of Life yet to be determined. Memorials can be sent to the Fairway Foundation,
PO Box 80658, Minneapolis MN 55408. OR via paypal at info@fairwayfoundation.org (please
put in notes “Eddie Manderville”).
