The only mistake Layshia Clarendon made Friday, Sylvia Fowles cleaned it up. The 6’6″ veteran back-tapped Clarendon’s missed outside shot with the shot clock almost out to preserve Minnesota’s . overtime victory over Las Vegas.
Clarendon scored four of her/his 20 points in the extra session, and recorded her/his seventh assist on a Fowles layup to give the hosts its final basket.
Fowles finished with her second double-double of the week: 30 points, 14 rebounds. Napheesa Collier also had a double with 10 boards to go along with 23 points. A’ja Wilson led Vegas with 28 points, and Liz Cambage added 18 with 20 rebounds.
Eye Test – The Lynx survived an O-for-6 drought in the final two minutes in the fourth quarter, blowing a 10 point lead. Vegas game plan is to power to the hoop to either score or go to the line. “All they were shooting were free throws,” said Minnesota Coach Cheryl Reeve afterwards.
Key stat – Minnesota was successful in its game plan—Fowles must touch the ball on virtually every possession. She scored eight of the team’s first 18 points
