Free day of golf and service for youth in Twin Cities metro
First Tee Minnesota, a nonprofit program integrating life skills curriculum with golf instruction, is partnering with the Seeds to Harvest coalition’s City of Lakes Summer Games to host Golf Day on Saturday, August 7, between 9 am and 4 pm, at North Commons Park in Minneapolis.
Golf saw an explosion in popularity in 2020 as more people sought outdoor activities during the pandemic, and local organization First Tee Minnesota is now introducing golf to kids and teens who might not otherwise have exposure to the game and the life lessons it teaches.
The event is part of the City of Lakes Community Summer Games, which is being held July 18- August 7, 2021. Hundreds of third through eighth-graders from across the metro area will get the chance to participate in traditional and non-traditional sporting events led by experienced coaches each week in North Minneapolis.
The games will bring communities together after this challenging time, promoting peace, progress, service, and sportsmanship at North Commons Park, North Community YMCA, and other local facilities. This event is possible thanks to the support of the Toro Company.
WHEN AND WHERE: Golf Day at the City of Lakes Community Summer Games will take place on August 7 with an open house format. Families can stop by anytime between 9 am and 4 pm at North Commons Park, 1801 James Avenue North, in Minneapolis.
WHY: First Tee enables youth to build strength of character that empowers them through a lifetime of new challenges by integrating golf with life skills. First Tee provides active learning experiences that develop inner strength, self-confidence, and resilience that kids can carry into everything they set out to accomplish.
HOW FAMILIES CAN REGISTER: Free registration for Golf Day (and other events) can be found on Eventbrite. Go to bit.ly/CityofLakesGolf
