Tuesday, August 31
In WNBA action, the Minnesota Lynx started off the week with a 74-66 victory over the New York Liberty at Target Center.
Kayla McBride led the way with 25 points and Napheesa Collier added 21 to go along with 14 rebounds.
Wednesday, September 1
The University of Minnesota volleyball team, ranked No. 10 nationally, lost to No. 1 Texas 3-1 at Maturi Pavilion.
Stephanie Samedy led the way with 21 kills and three blocks. Taylor Landfair added 11 kills and one block.
Thursday, September 2
The University of Minnesota football team lost to No. 4 Ohio State University at Hunting Stadium. Running back Mohamed Ibrahim rushed for 163 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Gophers.
Friday, September 3
In their high school football opener, Minneapolis North defeated St. Paul Johnson 41-0 with two touchdown runs each coming from Jaylon Washington and Will Smith, and one from De’Meiko Anderson. Quarterback Deshaun Hill connected with Rio Sanders for another score.
St. Paul Central defeated Minneapolis Washburn 16-14. Joshua Sims ran for two touchdowns to lead the victorious Minutemen while teammate Allan Lankford Jr. led the defense.
Quarterback Vinny Morton connected with Aiden Adams, scoringtwice for Washburn.
Saturday, September 4
The Lynx defeated the Washington Mystics 93-75 to extend their winning streak to five.
Collier led the way with 21 points, Aerial Powers had 20, Kayla McBride added 15, former Lakeville South and Gopher great Rachel Banham chipped in 13 points and eight assist as Sylvia Fowles’ 12 points rounded out the balanced attack.
