Community members came out in droves for the 2nd Annual Minnehaha Creek Duck Race on a warm, spring Saturday, May 7. After brief remarks by event organizers and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, it was off to the races for hundreds of yellow rubber ducks that sailed down Minnehaha Creek in South Minneapolis—much to the delight of youngsters and families who lined the parkway.
The race kicked off at the 12th Ave. bridge, and community members followed the ducks eastward as they floated downstream to the Cedar Ave. bridge where the race was called for a lucky duck.
Each duck was sponsored by a community member to raise funds for the Field Regina Northrup Neighborhood Group. In addition to the race, attendees enjoyed food trucks, live entertainment, children’s activities, and visiting with members of the Minneapolis Fire Department.
