MN-51 & Ford Pkwy St Paul
Twice a year, St. Paul Regional Water Services holds a Highland Park water tower open house. The fall open house offers great fall sights at great heights! The 127-foot tower, located at the intersection of Snelling Avenue and Ford Parkway, is no longer in service and is a neighborhood landmark.
The tower was designed by Clarence Wigington and completed in 1928. Wigington was the nation’s first African American municipal architect and served as the lead architect in over 90 St. Paul city projects from 1915 to 1949.
In addition to the Highland water tower, Wigington also designed many other important structures in the area, including the Saint Paul Public Safety Building (1929–30) and Como Park Pavilion (1934).
