Kolshorn Lecture: Coloring the Conservation Conversation with Dr. Drew Lanham

Each year, the Department of Fisheries, Wildlife, and Conservation Biology at the University of Minnesota invites a distinguished scientist or conservationist to campus to give the Kolshorn Lecture (https://fwcb.cfans.umn.edu/news/kolshorn-lecture). The Kolshorn lecture series was established in 1982 to honor Otto W. Kolshorn. Otto Kolshorn was a farmer, teacher, school board member, and Justice-of-the Peace from Goodhue County, Minnesota, who served 5 terms in the Minnesota House of Representatives. This year’s lecture by Dr. Drew Lanham “Coloring the Conservation Conversation” will be held virtually on Sept 30th at 5 PM Central.

Registration is requested through Eventbrite in order to receive a secure Zoom Webinar link. This free, virtual event is hosted by the Department of Fisheries, Wildlife and Conservation Biology (https://fwcb.cfans.umn.edu/) in partnership with the Bell Museum

About the Speaker
A native of Edgefield, South Carolina, J. Drew Lanham (https://jdlanham.wixsite.com/blackbirder) is the author of The Home Place: Memoirs of a Colored Man’s Love Affair with Nature, which received the Reed Award from the Southern Environmental Law Center and the Southern Book Prize, and was a finalist for the John Burroughs Medal. He is a birder, naturalist, and hunter-conservationist who has published essays and poetry in publications including Orion, Audubon, Flycatcher, and Wilderness, and in several anthologies, including The Colors of Nature, State of the Heart, Bartram’s Living Legacy, and Carolina Writers at Home. An Alumni Distinguished Professor of Wildlife Ecology and Master Teacher at Clemson University, he and his family live in the Upstate of South Carolina, a soaring hawk’s downhill glide from the southern Appalachian escarpment that the Cherokee once called the Blue Wall.
