OboeBass! Premieres Valerie Coleman’s “American Vein” in Lakeville Coffee Concert

Oboist Carrie Vecchione and bassist Rolf Erdahl of OboeBass! present a recital of music of Americana, including the World Premiere of Valerie Coleman’s American Vein, commissioned for OboeBass! This commission was made possible by the Chamber Music America Classical Commissioning Program, with generous funding provided by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
Valerie has been called “one of the Top 35 Women Composers” by the Washington Post’s Music Critic. Valerie’s 5-movement piece travels across America, starting with the Redwoods, travels Rt. 66, visits the Woodstock of John Cage’s era (1952), pays tribute to the Melting Pot at the Statue of Liberty, and finishes the tour with “Barn Raising, Bourbon and Bluegrass.” Follow Valerie Coleman at www.facebook.com/vcolemanmusic or https://www.vcolemanmusic.com
Also on the program, The Many Faces of Cy DeCosse, a piece written by 6 composers inspired by different artworks from Cy DeCosse’s recent retrospective exhibition at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. The composers each chose an artwork that appealed to them and wrote music to match. The composers are Mary Ellen Childs, Randall Davidson Tim Goplerud, Steve Heitzeg, Sarah Miller, and David Evan Thomas. OboeBass! rounds out the program with works by Stephen Foster and Tim Goplerud.
The concert is in a casual, cabaret setting, with the audience seated at tables. General admission. The music is accompanied by complimentary refreshments and Caribou Coffee. Free street parking.
