Tell me Who I am: One Nation Under a Groove
October 3 @ 11:00 am-4:30 pm
UMOJA Minnesota’s Fall Family Gathering is happening on October 3, 2021. This is a private event designed to strengthen the bond of families who are raising children of African descent through foster care, kinship care, or adoption. We invite these families to join us to celebrate with rhythms, food, and movement from people of African descent! Eligible participants can register online at www.evolveservices.org/umoja-mn until September 14, 2021.
We will be holding an in-person event with outdoor performances at the Como Lakeside Pavilion from 11:00 AM to 4:30 PM on Sunday, October 3. The theme of this camp is Tell me Who I am: One Nation Under a Groove.
We will be celebrating the rich history of African American music and movement with live performances from talented local groups. A Grammy award-winning music ensemble group, Sounds of Blackness, will perform. Other local groups, such as Hollywood Studio of Dance and Heart and Soul Drum Academy, will also be doing drum and dance workshops.
“This October’s camp is promising to be the most energetic, fun, entertaining and culturally enriching UMOJA camp experience since I have been here,” said James Johnson, UMOJA Education Programs Director. “Families will be able to interact directly with most performers and receive instruction on how they too can be involved with their performances. So get up, get ready, and get involved. We are One Nation Under a Groove!”
