This week will feature four pictures from the state girls’ basketball tournament last month: Ashley Bates, the junior guard from Class 4A champion Hopkins; Samantha Trammel, the senior forward who led Eastview to a Class 4A runner-up finish; Sophomore sensation Mikayla Hayes, who led Park Center to their second straight Class 3A crown; and Ashley Lewis, who helped Maranatha capture runner-up honors in Class 1A. Girls’ basketball tournament one to remember

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Park Center, led by CAYLA MCMORRIS, MIKAYLA HAYES, DANIELLE SHAUB and ANN SIMONET captured the Class 3A title in dramatic fashion, defeating Marshall 73-71 in three overtimes. Eastview, led by MADISON GUEBERT and HANA METOXEN, came from 12 points down to defeat Bloomington Kennedy, who got outstanding play from KENISHA BELL, TONOIA WADE, TYRAH SPENCER, LASHAYLA WRIGHT-PONDER, ISIEOMA ODOR, ZA’KEEA SA’EED EL and MARIAH ALIPATE, 64-61 to capture the Class 4A title. Eden Prairie, led by JAYLA MAYES-JACKSON and EMMA BOEHM, captured third-place honors in Class 4A. Top players take honors, early leads

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Minneapolis Washburn running back JEFF JONES, the senior who rushed for 4,668 yards and 92 touchdowns for his career, was recently named Mr. Football. Jones also helped the Millers’ boys’ basketball team capture second-place honors in the Class 3A state tournament in 2011 as a sophomore.  

Hageman captures team honors

Former Washburn football and basketball star RA’SHADE HAGEMAN was a three-time award winner at the Gophers annual team football banquet. Hageman, a defensive lineman recruited as tight end while in high school, captured the Bronko Nagurski Award (MVP), the Carle Eller Award (Outstanding Defensive Player), and Defensive Player of the Year.
