APIEW OJULU (Lakeville North) and ROSS TRAVIS (Chaska) were the MVPs of the 18th Annual Inner City All-Star Classic held last weekend at Schoenecker Arena on the University of St. Thomas campus. In the girls’ game, Ojulu scored all of her game-high 10 points in the second half to lead Team Truth to a 37-36 victory over Team Faith. Travis, who also won the slam dunk contest, scored 22 points to lead Team Wisdom past Team Knowledge in the boys’ contest.
AUBREY DAVIS (Eden Prairie) won the girls’ three-point shooting contest while BRETSON MCNEAL (DeLaSalle) captured the boys’ title.
Former Hopkins, University of Minnesota, and current New Jersey Net player KRIS HUMPHRIES, who played in the game after being named Mr. Basketball in 2003, judged the slam dunk contest along with former Minneapolis North, University of Wisconsin and WNBA standout TAMARA MOORE and 2004 MVP and slam dunk champion TERRY COURNOYEA.
Moore was Miss Basketball in 1998 and was so talented that she played in the All-Star Classic before the girls’ game was instituted in 2001. Teammate MAURI HORTON, who won Miss Basketball the following season before a stellar career at Rutgers, participated the following year.
