The girls’ basketball season has begun with eight of the state’s top players already signed with Division I schools. If you ever get a chance to get to a game, check these players out. (The college each signed with is in parentheses).
NIA COFFEY (Northwestern): While averaging 15.7 points per game, the 5-9 guard led Hopkins to the Class 4A state championship.
ALLINA STARR (Auburn): The 5-10 guard averaged 16 point while helping DeLaSalle capture their second straight Class 3A crown.
TYSEANNA JOHNSON (Iowa State): The 5-10 guard led DeLaSalle in scoring with a 17.8 average during their championship campaign last year.
JADE MARTIN (Georgetown): The 5-10 guard averaged 15 points per game for Bloomington Kennedy.
JESSICA JANUARY (DePaul): The 5-9 point guard averaged 26 points per game while leading Richfield to a Class 3A runner-up finish.
SADE CHATMAN (Alabama Birmingham): The 6-3 post player averaged 10 points in leading Central to a share of the City title.
PHILLIS WEBB (Eastern Michigan): The 5-9 guard helped Osseo to a runner-up Class 4A finish, averaging 21.4 point per game.
JANAY MORTON (Eastern Michigan): The 5-10 guard averaged 11.7 points per game while contributing to Osseo’s success last season.
ONY OSEMENAN (Missouri State): The 6-2 post layer led MCA to the Class A title last year.
