Melanin in Motion (MIM) is inviting the community to embrace the beauty and excitement of winter with two incredible programs designed for youth, families, and individuals from BIPOC communities. From snowboarding to Nordic skiing, these programs are breaking down barriers to make winter sports accessible, affordable, and fun.
Snowboarding Lessons for Youth and Families
Every weekend from January 11 to March 1, MIM will offer snowboarding lessons at Theodore Wirth Park. These 90-minute small-group sessions, capped at six participants, create a supportive environment for all skill levels to learn and enjoy the slopes.
- Cost: Pay what you can, from $0 to $15 per child.
- Incentive: Complete three lessons and earn a lift ticket for your family at Trollhaugen Ski Resort.
Donโt miss this chance to build confidence, master new skills, and create lasting family memories.
Monday Night Movement: Nordic Skiing for Families
On Monday evenings, Theodore Wirth Park transforms into a hub for cross-country skiing with MIMโs longest-running program. Designed for BIPOC families and individuals aged 8 and up, this progressive series introduces participants to the joys of Nordic skiing while fostering a deeper connection to nature.
- Cost: $11 per session, including equipment rental and a trail pass. Scholarships are available for those in need.
- Program Features:

Minneapolis and Saint Paul residents are invited to come out and enjoy the action, fun, and snow-filled excitement. Donโt miss this unforgettable celebration of winter sports and community.
Building Community Through Movement
Melanin in Motion believes in the transformative power of outdoor activity. Led by skilled BIPOC instructors, these programs provide a space where participants can explore winter sports while building community and gaining confidence.
Many of the youth coaches were once participants in the program and now bring their passion and expertise full circle. Families and individuals looking to purchase equipment will have access to special discounts and fittings through MIM partnerships.
The season will culminate in a joyous celebration at the 2025 Mystery Series and the Loppet Festival, bringing together participants, coaches, and supporters to reflect on their shared experiences.
