The Twin Cities music scene is about to experience an unforgettable night of live music, dancing, and celebration as local funk band Poetic Roots marks its 1-year anniversary. On Saturday, February 22, three of Minneapolis’ up-and-coming acts for an evening filled with good vibes, powerful messages, and soulful rhythms. Doors open at 6 PM, with the event kicking off at 8 PM. Tickets are $18 in advance (plus tax and fees) and $25 at the door. This event takes place at Icehouse Minneapolis.
A collective with a cause
Poetic Roots is more than just a band — it’s a movement. This collective of young, Black musicians is dedicated to celebrating and preserving the rich legacy of Black music. Led by singer-songwriter Brandyn Lee Tulloch, Poetic Roots draws heavily from the reggae and funk grooves of the late ’70s, creating music that resonates on both a physical and spiritual level. The movement’s mission is clear: to use music as a tool to inspire, uplift, and bring people together.
“The sound and the message are equally important,” says Tulloch. “Poetic Roots is about moving the masses—physically, mentally, and spiritually.”

Charmaine and BAKKWOODDRIFT
Charmaine has been making waves in the Twin Cities music scene with her blend of R&B and Soul. Known for her versatility and passionate performances, Charmaine first gained recognition as the founder of The Culture, a group celebrated for their electrifying shows at venues like RadioK and 7th Street. Now embarking on a solo career, she’s joined by BAKKWOODDRIFT, a talented ensemble of musicians who enhance her signature sound. Together, they deliver a captivating mix of soul, depth, and sophistication that leaves audiences wanting more.
LASALLE
LASALLE is a local pop band known for their infectious melodies and funky grooves. With a sound that draws inspiration from the classic Minneapolis Sound, R&B, and ’80s rock, LASALLE delivers high-energy performances that are impossible to resist. Their use of live guitar, drums, bass, and synth creates a modern twist on timeless sounds, ensuring the dance floor stays packed all night.
