Black Excellence on and off the Ice

Hockey has long been a space where Black athletes have made their mark, shaping the game through skill, perseverance, and leadership. This February, the Minnesota Frost is proud to celebrate Black History Month as part of its Unity Games series, recognizing the lasting impact of Black players, fans, and communities on the sport.

On February 23, 2025, the Frost will take on the Toronto Sceptres at the Xcel Energy Center, in a night dedicated to honoring Black history, culture, and contributions to hockey. The event will feature activations that highlight Black voices, organizations, and businesses, ensuring that the spirit of unity and progress continues both on and off the ice.

A Powerful Design for Black History Month

At the heart of this yearโ€™s Black History Month celebration is a bold and vibrant logo created by Kezna Dalz, a Montrรฉal-based multidisciplinary artist known for her use of color and storytelling. Dalzโ€™s design for the Professional Womenโ€™s Hockey League (PWHL) Black History Month logo reflects themes of resilience, community, and joy, serving as a visual tribute to the contributions of Black athletes and fans.

In addition to showcasing Dalzโ€™s artwork throughout the game, the PWHL Black History Month commemorative shirt, featuring her unique design, is now available for purchase. Proceeds from the sale will go toward supporting Black Girl Hockey Club, a nonprofit dedicated to creating inclusive spaces and opportunities for Black women and girls in hockey.

Breaking Barriers in the Game

Hockeyโ€™s diversity movement has gained momentum in recent years, thanks in part to organizations like Black Girl Hockey Club, which works to make the sport more accessible to Black communities. Fans interested in learning more or getting involved can visit blackgirlhockeyclub.org to support their mission of breaking down barriers and ensuring that hockey is for everyone.

Join the Celebration

The Black History Month Unity Game is more than just a night of hockeyโ€”itโ€™s a moment to reflect on the contributions of Black players and communities while pushing for a more inclusive future in the sport. Additional details on special collaborations, community partnerships, and featured Black-owned businesses will be announced soon.

Tickets for the Minnesota Frost vs. Toronto Sceptres Unity Game on February 23, 2025, are available now at Ticketmaster.
