Sunrise December 5, 1934 — Sunset June 7, 2025

Barbara Jean Cabell Cassius was born in Mason City, Iowa on December 5, 1934, to Henry and Nola Roberson Cabell. She grew up in Milwaukee and moved to Minneapolis where she married Donald Anthony Cassius and started her family. Although Barbara returned to Milwaukee to work and continue raising her family, she maintained strong connections with family and friends in Minneapolis, returning in 2014, where she passed away on June 7, 2025.

A hallmark of Barbara’s life was her interest and commitment to volunteering for cultural and community organizations in her community. In Minneapolis she volunteered at Cristo Rey Jesuit High School (she attended Catholic elementary and secondary schools in Milwaukee), the Cultural Wellness Center, and Sister Spokesman where she received recognition as an outstanding volunteer. Barbara valued the opportunities she had to travel to many places in the United States and around the world, and to have had varied and challenging work and volunteer experiences in Milwaukee and Minneapolis. She was grateful for how the many experiences and associations enriched her life.

Barbara is preceded in death by her daughter, Barbara Allison Cassius; sister, Marcia Cornish; and husband, Donald Anthony Cassius. She is survived by her son, Lawrence Anthony Cassius; sister, Patricia Alford; granddaughter, Navache Marie Bailey; great granddaughters, Ariana Bailey and Alexis Bailey; great grandson, Dakarai Bailey; and other relatives and friends.

Barbara’s journey in this life ended on June 7, 2025, after many years living with Alzheimer’s disease.

Barbara’s Memorial Service will be held on July 10 at Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, 3333 North 4th Street, Minneapolis, MN, where she was a longtime member.

Visitation with family and friends will begin at 10:30 am with her service starting at 11:00 am.  A repast at Fellowship will follow immediately after the service.

Barbara’s remains were buried next to her husband in a private service at Fort Snelling National Cemetery on June 18.
