Minneapolis Black Business Week Opens at 38th & Chicago with Celebration of Ownership and Legacy

Minneapolis Black Business Week kicked off with a vibrant celebration at 38th and Chicago, honoring Black entrepreneurship through food, music, panel discussions, and community. The event spotlighted local businesses and voices driving economic empowerment and cultural legacy.

The fifth annual Minneapolis Black Business Week launched with energy and intention at the heart of 38th Street and Chicago Avenue in South Minneapolisโ€”an intersection known around the world as the site of George Floydโ€™s murder, and now a growing beacon of Black business ownership and resilience.

Entrepreneurs, community leaders, artists, and neighbors gathered to celebrate the legacy and future of Black entrepreneurship in the Twin Cities. With food, music, art, and powerful conversations, the event brought hundreds of attendees to a vibrant commercial corridor anchored by businesses like Bichota Coffee, Plot Gallery, Mystic Healing Stones, City Food Studio, and Just Turkey.

โ€œWeโ€™re already brilliant,โ€ said C. Terrence Anderson, owner of Bichota Coffee, during a panel on Black legacy and economic justice. โ€œThis block proves it every day.โ€

The day featured vendor booths, live music, and a standing-room-only panel discussion with leaders like Chef Lachelle Cunningham, P.J. Hill, Renay Dossman, Tracey Williams-Dillard, and Asa โ€œAceโ€ Rice, each sharing stories of ownership, strategy, and legacy building.

The Minnesota Spokesman-Recorder was on the ground capturing moments of joy, solidarity, and vision. Scroll through the photo gallery below for highlights from this powerful opening celebration.
