Minnesotaโ€™s annual season of giving has arrived, and this year Spokesman-Recorder is calling on supporters across the state to help carry its community programming farther than ever before. As Give to the Max Day approaches on November 20, the organization is launching a fifty thousand dollar campaign to expand its outreach, wellness programming, and Sister Spokesman events into new Minnesota communities.

For more than eight decades, the Spokesman-Recorder name has been tied to service, information, and advocacy for Black Minnesotans. Today, through its 501(c)(3) nonprofit arm, that work continues through programs that center healing, empowerment, and connection. Sister Spokesman is one example, a long running network and wellness series for women of color that offers space to breathe, learn, and support one another. The program has steadily grown in the Twin Cities, and the demand for similar spaces in other parts of Minnesota is rising.

Community members from St. Cloud to Rochester to Duluth have expressed interest in accessing culturally grounded programs that reflect their lived experiences. Spokesman-Recorderโ€™s Give to the Max campaign focuses on meeting that need by bringing workshops, health and wellness resources, mentoring sessions, and Sister Spokesman events to more cities.

Give to the Max Day first launched in 2009 with the hope of sparking statewide generosity. In its first sixteen years, the giving holiday helped raise more than three hundred million dollars for nonprofits and schools. In 2024 alone, donors contributed a record breaking thirty seven million dollars in one day. The day has become a powerful tradition among Minnesotans who believe in investing in their communities.

This year, Spokesman-Recorder is working to make sure that investment reaches Black Minnesotans in every corner of the state. Funds raised through the campaign will support travel, staffing, program supplies, outreach efforts, and new partnerships with community organizations outside the Twin Cities.

Every donation helps build momentum. Whether it is twenty five dollars or two hundred fifty dollars, each gift fuels the work of bringing programs to women, families, elders, and youth who are seeking support and connection.

Spokesman-Recorderโ€™s work has always been rooted in community. This campaign is an opportunity to strengthen that foundation and extend it statewide, ensuring more Minnesotans have access to the programs that uplift, inform, and empower.

For those who believe in expanding opportunity and honoring the voices of Black Minnesotans, Give to the Max Day offers a chance to fuel that future.
