Wiggins Powers Wayzata Past Hopkins in Rivalry Showdown

Christian Wiggins led Wayzata with 33 points in an 80–76 victory over Hopkins in a closely contested rivalry game. The win keeps Wayzata rolling while setting up a rematch with potential postseason implications.

Christian Wiggins delivered a statement performance Friday, lifting Wayzata boys basketball to an 80–76 win over Hopkins in a tightly contested rivalry game in Plymouth.

Wiggins finished with a game-high 33 points, punctuating the victory with a composed step-back three in the final seconds to secure the Trojans’ late separation. The senior’s scoring presence anchored Wayzata through multiple momentum swings in a game that stayed within a possession for much of the second half.

Wayzata built early rhythm offensively, but Hopkins responded with timely perimeter shooting to keep the contest close. The Royals briefly seized momentum late in the first half, carrying a slim edge into the break.

In the closing stretch, Wayzata’s execution proved decisive. Nolen Anderson added 20 points, providing key interior production and defensive presence, while Isaac Olmstead chipped in 13. The Trojans leaned on ball movement and composure down the stretch to withstand Hopkins’ final push.

Hopkins was led by Jayden Moore, who paced the Royals with 19 points. Tre Moore added 15 as Hopkins remained within striking distance until the final possessions.

The win improves Wayzata to 15–2 on the season, continuing a strong campaign for the defending Class 4A state champions. Hopkins drops to 11–6 but remains firmly in the postseason picture.

The two programs are set to meet again on Feb. 17 at Hopkins, with potential section implications looming if the rivals collide a third time with a state tournament berth on the line.
