PPGJLI writing competitions invite Saint Paul residents and Minnesota youth to submit original work celebrating culture, justice, and leadership.
Planting People Growing Justice Leadership Institute (PPGJLI) is excited to announce two new writing competitions, and they invite you to participate and help us spread the word throughout our communities!
Storytelling is a powerful tool for preserving culture, inspiring leadership, and advancing justice. These opportunities are designed to uplift voices, honor lived experiences, and encourage the next generation of changemakers.
1) Rondo Anthology – Call for Submissions
Planting People Growing Justice Leadership Institute is currently accepting submissions for our Rondo Anthology, a celebration of culture, history, and community voice.
This opportunity is open to individuals who are:

- Living in Saint Paul
- Of African American heritage
- Of all ages
They welcome:
- Poetry
- Essays
- Short stories
- Other creative writing that reflects lived experience, culture, and community voice
This anthology honors the legacy and resilience of the Rondo community and provides a platform for powerful storytelling rooted in truth and identity.

2) MLK Day Writing Competition – Youth Voices for Justice
Planting People Growing Justice Leadership Institute is also accepting submissions for their MLK Day Writing Competition, with entries due by March 6, 2026.
This opportunity is open to youth who are:
- Living in Minnesota
- In Kindergarten through 8th grade
Young writers are encouraged to reflect on the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. and share their hopes for justice, leadership, and positive change in their communities.
This competition empowers students to think critically, dream boldly, and express how they can carry forward Dr. King’s vision in today’s world.
