SELMA, Ala. โ€” Civil Rights TV has officially launched as what organizers describe as the worldโ€™s first 24-hour television network dedicated exclusively to civil rights history, education, and future equity.

The network debuts from Selma, a city central to the American civil rights movement, and streams on the Connect To Your City OTT platform powered by Connect2OTT.

Civil Rights TV will operate continuously, offering documentaries, news analysis, live discussions, educational programming, global civil rights coverage, and cultural storytelling. Organizers say the channel is designed to function both as a historical archive and as a living platform addressing contemporary civil rights issues.

Technology and Civil Rights in the Digital Era

The network launches at a time when digital infrastructure, media access, and artificial intelligence are increasingly shaping public discourse.

According to organizers, Civil Rights TV utilizes broadcast-efficient OTT architecture intended to reduce bandwidth usage and energy consumption while enabling global distribution. The platform positions itself as a response to concerns about media fragmentation, misinformation, and unequal access to technology.

As access to digital platforms becomes a growing factor in civic participation, the network places itself at the intersection of media, infrastructure, and equity.

Preserving the Role of the Black Press

Civil Rights TV leaders emphasize the ongoing importance of the Black press in documenting civil rights history and shaping public understanding.

For generations, Black-owned newspapers and independent broadcasters have preserved critical archives of the civil rights movement and contemporary social justice reporting. Organizers say the network will collaborate with national Black press outlets, digital news platforms, podcasts, and independent journalists to help shape coverage and historical interpretation.

The channel will accept content submissions from trusted community voices, journalists, and verified organizations. Approved submissions may air during designated community programming windows, with select content considered for prime-time broadcast based on editorial review.
