The Sounds of Black History brings community together in Minneapolis

The Sounds of Black History invites community members to gather in Minneapolis for storytelling, cultural reflection and fellowship while honoring leaders who preserve Black history in Minnesota.

Community members are invited to gather for The Sounds of Black History on Friday, February 27, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the North Loop Garage in Minneapolis.

The event centers storytelling, cultural reflection, and community fellowship, honoring individuals who have helped shape and preserve Black history in Minnesota. A $10 donation includes a BBQ plate, with proceeds supporting future Black History events.

Spike Moss
Described as a Minnesota historian dedicated to preserving African American history through storytelling, research, education, and public engagement.

Ray Seville
Founder of Ray Seville Productions and a longtime cultural producer in the Twin Cities.

Demetairs Bell
Retired Metro Transit Street Operations assistant manager and former KMOJ radio personality.

Walter Q Bear Banks
KMOJ radio personality and advocate who uses media to uplift Black culture and strengthen civic engagement.

Supporting Future Programming

Organizers say donations from the event will help fund future Black History programming and community gatherings. With food, fellowship, and reflections from respected community leaders, the afternoon aims to bring people together around history, culture, and shared purpose.

Admission is a $10 donation, which includes a BBQ plate.
