
Stanley Eugene Williams, Ph.D, age 94, passed away peacefully into eternal rest on March 18, 2026. Dr. Williams had a long and illustrious career as a research scientist at the University of Minnesota, serving in various capacities, including Executive Director of the Colon Cancer Control Study in the Cancer Detection Center, Director of the Program on the Surgical Control of the Hyperlipidemias (POSCH) Coordinating Center, and facilitator and statistician for the Division of Metabolic/Bariatric Surgery.
Dr. Williams, affectionately known as โSensi,โ was a 6th-degree black belt and judo coach at the YMCA for over 50 years, developing character, strength, and determination in hundreds of students. He was a man of outstanding intellect, deep faith, determined excellence, and abounding love.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Louverne I. Williams; his children, Brian Williams (Rhonda), David Williams (Marie), Laurel Bunker (Joshua), Allison Williams, and Jennifer Williams; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his brothers, Martin, Tommy, and Francis; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, April 10, 2026. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at Saint Peter Claver Church, 375 N. Oxford, Saint Paul, Minnesota. Interment will take place at 12:30 PM at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. A luncheon will follow at the Hallie Q. Brown Community Center, 270 N. Kent, Saint Paul, Minnesota.
