The 1,000-point career mark is quite the accomplishment for basketball players at any level. Three of the top Twin Cities metro area high school basketball players recently reached that 1,000-point career mark. Lamont Michaels, Trey Parker, and Ma’Lon McCoy all reached the mark this past week.

Michaels, a 6’0” senior guard who’s in his fourth varsity season at Two Rivers High School, is currently averaging 13.6 points per game for the Warriors with a season high of 23.

Parker, a 6’2” senior guard in his fourth consecutive varsity season at Apple Valley High School, averages 23.1 points per game for the Eagles with a season-high of 38.

McCoy, a 5’9” junior guard who started her prep girls basketball as a seventh grader at St. Agnes, is averaging 18.8 points per game for the Aggies with a season-high 38.

All three are the leading scorers for their team.

Former prep players at pro level

Two former East Ridge boys basketball players are currently playing in the professional ranks. Professional players Freddie Gillespie (2014) and Kendall Brown (2021) were standouts for the Raptors before embarking on their careers.

Gillespie, a 6’9” forward who went on to star at Baylor University, currently plays in the Proballers League for Galalasaray Turkey-BSL.

Brown, a 6’7” shooting guard who starred at Baylor as well, plays for the Maine Celtics in the NBA G League.

A continuing legacy

Former St. Paul Como Park boys basketball great Donald West has two sons playing for Concordia University-St. Paul.

They are Sam West, a 6’4” senior guard, and Jade West, a 6’ sophomore guard. Both prepped at Shakopee High School.

West was an all-city guard for Como during the mid-1980s
