Five-time Grammy Award-winning producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis are bringing more than four decades of chart-topping music to Las Vegas this spring with a limited residency at Voltaire at The Venetian Resort Las Vegas.
The legendary songwriting and production duo will debut their show “Nothing But Hits” on select dates April 17-18, 22 and 24-26, offering audiences a rare opportunity to hear the stories behind some of the most influential songs in modern R&B and pop.
With 42 No. 1 songs on the Billboard charts and more than 100 gold, platinum and diamond albums connected to their work, Jam and Lewis have helped shape the soundtrack of multiple generations.
A legacy rooted in the Minneapolis sound
Both producers are closely tied to the Minneapolis sound, a musical movement that emerged in the late 1970s blending funk, rock, new wave and synth-pop influences. The sound was pioneered by artists such as Prince and became closely associated with Minneapolis venues including First Avenue.
Jam and Lewis first gained recognition as members of The Time, one of the signature acts of the Minneapolis music scene, before launching a production career that would transform R&B and pop music.
Their catalog includes hits written and produced for artists such as Janet Jackson, Michael Jackson, Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey, Boyz II Men, New Edition, Chaka Khan and Toni Braxton.
Their work with Janet Jackson helped define some of the most iconic albums in R&B history, including Control, which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year.
A live celebration of iconic hits
For the residency, Jam and Lewis will be joined by special guest vocalists Ruben Studdard, winner of American Idol, and Shanice, who rose to national attention on Star Search.
Backed by a live band, the show will feature performances of songs Jam and Lewis wrote and produced, along with behind-the-scenes stories about the artists and recording sessions that helped define their career.
“We’ve been blessed to do many things in our careers, but we’ve never had the opportunity to perform our five-decade catalog of hits live,” Jam said in a statement announcing the residency.
Lewis added that the show will combine storytelling with live music, creating an experience that walks audiences through the soundtrack of their lives.
