Position: Assistant/Associate Director, Minnesota State High School League

The Minnesota State High School League is seeking an outstanding administrator to join the League in the position of Assistant/Associate Director. This position is responsible for directing League programs as well as additional assignments in the areas of governance, eligibility and member school assistance and compliance.

Each Assistant/Associate Director represents and speaks on behalf of the League and its more than 600 diverse schools and their students within tournaments, at civic events and in working with schools.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Serve as MSHSL Assistant/Associate Director, modeling the mission and beliefs of the MSHSL and leading member schools.
  • Educate and communicate with member school personnel regarding the value of providing education-based activities and athletics and the value for students of participation in League-sponsored activities.
  • Administer the sports and activities assigned, including interpretation of rules, planning and administration of tournaments, working as liaison to tournament venues, providing financial oversight of tournaments, working with sport or activity specific advisory committees and coordinating all aspects of the sport or activity.
  • Administer compliance of all MSHSL bylaws, policies and rules in general and specific to directed sports and activities. Serve as a compliance contact for all MSHSL member schools and constituents.
  • Work collaboratively with the members of the MSHSL administrative team, support staff, Board of Directors, Region Committees, Coaches Associations, Coaches Advisory Committees and Member Schools.
  • Assist the Executive Director and Board of Directors, the Representative Assembly and Region Committees in preparing, reviewing and administering the bylaws, policies and rules of the MSHSL.
  • Supervise and direct administrative assistants responsible for assisting in the direction of sports or activities.
  • Assist at statewide meetings by speaking at conferences, leading discussion groups, instructing ADs and serving as a staff liaison/chair of assigned ad hoc/task force committees.
  • Other areas of responsibility may include important categories such as marketing, sponsorships and activations, eligibility support, education aspects, training and support of activities administrators, etc.

Desired Qualifications

  • Minimum of a BA or BS with evidence of continuing education. Additional certification, or an MA or higher in administration or leadership, is preferred.
  • Demonstrated abilities in planning, administration and evaluation of people and programs.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with varied constituencies to support inclusive programming and expand access and opportunities for all students.
  • Strong knowledge of the key components of student-centered education-based activities and athletics.
  • Demonstrated leadership and administration of League-sponsored athletic and fine arts activities or educational programming at the local, regional and/or state level or leadership in a similar organization.
  • Identified leadership experience that includes creation of initiatives within youth athletics or activities that enhance opportunities, build skills and support healthy growth and development.
