NABJ celebrates 40 years in Minneapolis – sights and highlights

Some 2,000 journalists and media personalities were in Twin Cities for the 40th National Association of Black Journalists convention in Minneapolis, August 5 – 9. Iyanla Vanzant, Louis Gossett, Jr. and more were in attendance, Mint Condition performed at a fundraiser, and Prince invited members to Paisley Park to close out event.

Three Black journos had memorable MN careers

Walter Middlebrook, another young journalist, began long and rewarding career at both city newspapers. First-of-its-kind public pool comes to North Minneapolis

A new “cutting edge” pool is expected to open in North Minneapolis later this month. The Webber Park Natural Swimming Pool (NSP), pending inspection approval, will open July 24, said Minneapolis Park Board officials.

According to a park board fact sheet, there are approximately 20,000 NSPs, mostly located in Europe. They are “living systems… They function more like a stream, lake or wetland.” Most NSPs in North America however are private.
