Fab Five Photos – Minneapolis South defeats Minneapolis North
Minneapolis South’s 88-84 victory over Minneapolis North on Wednesday, December 11 was highlighted by two South players scoring 22 points each, a North player scoring 22 points, a North point guard scoring 14 points, and a former Marshall University High School and Augsburg University great officiating the game.
Two former greats represent in Big Ten ball
Two former Twin Cities Metro area high school boys’ basketball standouts, Tre Holloman and Lu’Cye Patterson, went at it during the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers men’s basketball Big Ten Conference opener against the Michigan State Spartans, with Holloman leading the Spartans with eight assists and Patterson scoring 12 points and four assists for the Gophers.
Robinson, Edwards lead the way
Angel Robinson and Brianna Edwards, two of Minnesota’s top girls’ basketball coaches, recently coached their respective teams in a nonconference game, with Minneapolis North winning 70-51.
A blast from the past
Tyler Johnson, a former Minnesota Gophers wide receiver, caught a 24-yard pass in overtime to set up the winning touchdown for the Los Angeles Rams in their 26-20 victory over the Seattle Seahawks.
The game that changed my life
On February 17, 1979, Ben Coleman’s whole life changed when he attended the Twin City basketball game between St. Paul Central and Minneapolis North, which featured some of the state’s top prospects and led to a decade of success for both programs.
Dixon helps Cretin-Derham Hall make it to state
Monteff Dixon, Ma’Lan McCoy, Angel Robinson, Brianna Edwards, and Courtney Williams have all contributed to successful seasons for their respective teams, with Dixon and Williams leading their teams to the state playoffs and the WNBA Finals respectively.

The Minneapolis North Polars defeated the St. Croix Lutheran Crusaders 35-34 in the Class 3A, Section 4 semifinals, securing a spot in the state playoffs for the ninth time in 11 seasons.

Ahmil Jihad, a successful high school basketball coach and 1984 Minneapolis North graduate, has been selected to lead the boys program at his alma mater, bringing his coaching expertise and passion for the game to his hometown.

Allan Lankfard Jr., a senior at St. Paul Central, has become one of the top student athletes in the state of Minnesota, leading the boys basketball team to the St. Paul City Conference Championship and the football team to a 3-3 record.

St. Paul Johnson defeated St. Paul Como Park 36-6, with sophomore defensive back Colin Moore Jr. scoring two touchdowns.

Prep football season begins
Robbinsdale Cooper and Park Center won their season openers, while Minneapolis North lost a close game to Holy Angels.
